This amazing belt buckle, the "Great Divide" Side-by-Side, is Neil's 2nd of this new style of reversible buckle. We don't know of anyone else making anything like these. The center bar buckle is the old, classic way of making a buckle. Neil modified that concept and made it reversible. This style of buckle is essentially a buckle and keeper in one, rendering a leather keeper optional.

The side-by-side bars pivot and lie flat against the strap. The reversible plates making up the side-by-side bars are soldered together and are assembled to the engraved cross braces with stainless steel jeweler's screws. The profile of the buckle is seen and can be enjoyed when the buckle is worn.

The side-by-side bars are hand engraved sterling silver on one side with an elegant design reminding Neil of a combination of moorish and classic European scroll. The darker side is hand engraved Shakudo - a Japanese alloy formulated for a special patina, often used in decorating swords - with 24K gold and pure silver inlay representing flowers. The design is inspired by Arabian as well as Japanese pattern design in the best American tradition of borrowing a little from everyone... I wanted to call the buckle "Arabian Nights" because the inlaid design on the Shakudo side reminds me of stars and planets in the night sky, and the design itself has an Arabian feel.

All four sides of the swivel bars are engraved, as are the top and bottom cross braces, which also have 24K gold inlay. While working out the engineering of the buckle, Neil discovered that it needs a long tongue to work.

This belt buckle is both versatile and elegant. The engraved silver side is more classic, while the Shakudo side kicks it up a notch. Either side of the buckle would look great on a dark strap. It should work well with any reasonably flexible leather belt strap, although, we obviously recommend our own custom straps.
