Handcrafted Mokume-gane "Quail" Belt Buckle, shown on Ranger Strap
This unique belt buckle is completely hand-formed from a solid, flat sheet of Mokume-gane. Mokume gane (Japanese for "wood grained metals") is a type of Japanese married metal made from diffusion bonded laminates often used in decorating swords, in this case consisting of sterling silver and copper.
The buckle has a very strong handcrafted look. It has hammer marks from being worked from the back to produce valleys and ridges on the front of the Mokume-gane, which are filed and sanded to reveal a unique design. The quail flying off into this mottled background stimulates the imagination. The tongue is formed in solid brass, and the sterling silver quail has 24K gold inlaid in the throat and the side of the head.
The buckle has a nice, solid heft to it, and you won't find it anywhere else. It would look very nice on any color belt strap. It can be dressed up or down, and we recommend either a ranger or a tapered belt strap.
