Completing this spectacular, custom belt buckle set, which was a gift for a 10th anniversary, was a painstaking process. Neil designed it some time ago, and modified it to include the sapphires and the "R".

It has elaborate, European bank note engraving, especially on the keepers, combined with Middle Eastern style scrolls. The whole belt buckle set also has an architectural feel.

The buckle is made of two layers of silver. The back plate, which is the main body, has crenelated edges and is filigreed behind the "R", so the leather is visible through the holes. The sapphires are set into the same layer in order to be recessed, and somewhat protected. The scroll-work and leaf-work was engraved on a separate piece that is attached to the front of the back-plate, the two pieces now making up the buckle body. Finally the "R", which is inlaid with 24K gold, is attached over the filigreed area.

The keepers, which mirror each other, are done in a single layer of silver. Complex scroll-work swirls are tied together inside the oval shape, while the notched top and bottom edges pick up on the crenelation on the edges of the buckle. The tip completes the design by repeating the filigree pattern and the 24K gold inlay from the buckle, although, the filigree on the tip is only on the surface. The grouse taking off is purposefully subtle in contrast to some of the other design elements.
