Neil made this unusual belt buckle set for Christopher. He has an engraved Sonora set, the "Wave", from 2001 already. Christopher left this one up to Neil and this is what he came up with. The stone is an Ammonite cabochon (a fossilized nautilus shell) and the 24K gold line-inlay is done in geometric knot-work. The shaded areas are recessed adding an element of three-dimensionality.
Neil finished the belt buckle first, and in one of his emails to Christopher while working on it, he commented that he was concerned that he had designed himself into a corner. Fortunately he was also able to design himself out again... The beautiful simplicity of this buckle set is deceptive, as it is truly difficult to accomplish.
Christopher is a highly accomplished photography artist. He is also a professional technical diver, so the nautilus shell theme was appropriate for him.
