This sterling silver hand engraved Baja belt buckle set with 18K gold overlay and 24K gold line-inlay was a gift for Andy from a good friend and pheasant-hunting companion. Neil thouroughly enjoyed making it, and I think he really captured a moment in South Dakota. He is also, obviously, moving into a new design-phase, again.
Neil overlaid the silver scrollwork-sections for a three-dimensional look on the buckle. The thicker buckle-edge that this creates, is completely engraved. The scrolls that "cap off" the gold lines at the top and bottom of the scrollwork on the buckle, and the gold line that continues around the edge on the tip (see sideview photo), are interesting design details. The "swoop" of the gold line on the tip really lifts the pheasant and gives the feeling of flight. The keepers and the side of the buckle have checkered areas that are reminiscent of shotguns.
