David saw the "Elk" buckle, item # "sengr.fbsgoldelk2.oct03", in progress in October -03. He initially wanted a buckle set like it, but decided to have Neil make a set with a Whitetail buck instead. David spends a lot of time in Minnesota, where the Whitetail deer are plentiful. This whole set has a definite North Woods -theme.

The buckle set is fabricated in solid sterling silver with the checkered edges in 14K gold overlay. The buck and the other deer, and the scrollwork sections are in 18K gold overlay, while the oval behind the buck is 24K gold flush inlay. The gold lines through the checkered sections on the buckle and the keeper, the main vein of the spirals in the scrollwork-sections, the top edge of the buck's antlers, and the points of his antlers, are all 24K gold line-inlay. Where the color of the deer is whiter in reality; around the nose, inside the ears, and around the tail, there is pure silver inlay on the buck, and on the doe and the fawn on the keeper. The throats of the deer are inlaid white gold.

The design on the buckle is quite symmetrical, with the line through the checkered area on the top continuing through the antler, and the line on the bottom continuing into the scroll next to it. Another interesting design-detail is that the center line of the scrolls on the left side of the buckle follow the outline of the gold oval. The keeper has a pronounced architectural shape.

This buckle set has wonderful, rich design-elements, and is a sight to behold in real life!
