Hand Engraved Solid Sterling Silver
Belt Buckle Set w/Gold, "Elk"

This Elk buckle is a bit of a departure from Neil's usual work. The buckle is sterling silver with 14k gold overlay. It has 24k gold line-inlay for the scrolls and to highlight the top edge of the elk's antlers and back, as if it were early morning light. The scrolls counterbalance the antlers by proportion but are scaled up to be in the foreground.
The keeper is somewhat "architectural" in shape and also has 14k overlay and 24k inlay. The snow in the mountains is pure silver line-inlay. The elk represent the middle ground.
The tip has a layered look, which Neil wanted to work with the receding mountain peaks, which also use silver inlay. The elk are set in the background, as well. The overall effect is playful for its unique approach in technique and design. There's a lot of detail for a buckle set, but Neil tried to create a bit of a horizontal pattern so it's pleasant to look at from a distance as well as up close. It is a very dynamic wildlife engraving and Neil will certainly incorporate many details from this buckle set into future pieces.
