This dramatic, engraved silver belt buckle set with 18K gold overlay was a pleasure to make and engrave, and it has strong design elements. Terry sent us some terrific photos of these two German Shorthairs, and good photos make all the difference. He said he was taking so many photos of the dogs that they were really starting to wonder what was up... and Neil had lots of fun with the design process.
The covey of quail, taking up from the undergrowth on the buckle, adds a feeling of drama. The quail at the top took up first, and is getting away. The shape of the keeper, and its architectural and 3-dimensional features, add to the drama of the scene along with the dogs' stance.
Neil used rose and scroll engraving for the ground at the bottom of the buckle, and something like "quail and scroll" for the sky, while the scroll work around the covey is more tangled, like undergrowth. The two bottom scroll work sections on the keeper and tip are overlaid sections of silver. A gun-metal-like finish completes the feeling of a hunting scene.
