This solid rose gold buckle for Nelson is a third variation on a theme. We called this one "Bear & Bull" as the market was decidedly down during the time this buckle was being completed.
The bear and bull are heavily sculpted, even more so than on the previous Bull & Bear buckle, and they are larger. One important aspect of good design that Neil enjoys, and excels in, is working with the negative space (the open space around the object). It has to help balance the object itself on the one hand, while creating a combined, dynamic balance with the object on the other hand.
This design is a more classic banknote style, and the "double spirals" on the columns are actually copied from a US Twenty-Dollar Gold-Coin Note from 1905. The columns themselves represent Wall Street.
