Close-Up of Belt Buckle | Close-Up of "Buck" | Angled Close-Up of Belt Buckle
This amazing belt buckle was for Terry, and like his first buckle set, "Terry's Dogs", it depicts his German Shorthair hunting dogs. This buckle has a fair amount of inlay. Besides the obvious 24K gold lines in the scrolls, there is some 24K inlaid into the 18K clouds giving them different shades of yellow to imply a sunrise or sunset. Pete's eye is brass, while Buck's eye is copper with brass inlay. The quail is 18K white gold.
Neil got some advise from Giovanni of Creative Arts in Italy and from Ron Smith of Texas on the design, while at the GRS Grand Masters Program in Emporia, Kansas in mid-August this year. He is pleased with the composition of this piece. The dogs and the background are in the bulino style, while the scroll-work is often called banknote style or English scroll. This belt buckle takes Neil's work, as well as the art of buckle-making, up a couple of notches. Neil hopes the dogs appreciate this heroic image of them. It might make it even more difficult to get them to show a little humility, though.
