Close-Up of Belt Buckle | Top & Bottom Close-Ups of Keepers
This 4-piece belt buckle set for Wally has a dynamic design. The scrolls on the buckle are quite different from the scrolls on the keepers and tip, which are also different from each other. The buckle has a quite complex scroll design, and it's especially intriguing to follow the intricate vines as they wrap around each other above and below the dog. There is a border of "feathers" on the edge of the buckle near the opening, and the stippled line around the rest of the buckle perimeter is echoed on the edges of the keepers.
It's also worth pointing out the difference in the scrolls on the top and bottom of the keepers (see Top & Bottom Close-Ups of Keepers) as the scrolls on the top are clearly lighter and airier, while the bottom is heavier with thicker vines, indicating the base or the root of the scrolls. The area around the covey of quail on the tip is purposefully left "open" to allow for their escape, and the un-engraved area on the keepers leave an open "field" between the dogs and the quail.
The dog on the buckle, and the quail on the tip are done in 18K gold overlay. All four pieces of this set have flush 18K inlay. The 18K gold covers most of the surface area of the keepers, and there is pure silver (.999) line-inlay in the gold on both of them. The quail also have pure silver inlay on their throats.
