This sweet, little engraved Sonora silver belt buckle set for Jim, was loosely based in the designs of several of the engraved Sonora designs from 2003 and 2004. It has classic scrollwork with Neil's continuously evolving approach. Neil worked very carefully with the balance between the background shapes and the scrolls in the foreground. The double, crossing vines on the buckle are reminiscent of Viking designs, and the entangled vines on the left of the buckle are almost knotted. There is the suggestion of a Celtic knot as a focal point for the tip. The dentilated edges on all pieces create a nice, tactile finish.
The design for this set was developed during the engraving, and sometimes all the elements just come together like this.
